Babies cry, you can cope! click here to download a free brochure In 2006 in Dallas County, at least six children have died from Abusive Head Trauma, also known as Shaken Baby Syndrome. Crying is the number one trigger for shaking a baby and many parents and caregivers can find themselves overwhelmed, frustrated and exhausted when caring for an inconsolable infant. The CAP Center has contracted with Dallas Independent School District to teach child abuse prevention classes to students, teachers, and staff. CAP also takes the "Babies cry, you can cope," message to many other local school districts and private schools, spreading the word about the dangers of shaking babies. To date, the CAP Center has educated over 10,000 students and caregivers about Shaken Baby Syndrome, giving them tools and coping strategies for dealing with crying infants. CAP also hosts an annual childcare provider conference in April where local childcare providers can learn about Shaken Baby Syndrome, SIDS, and other topics to count toward their credits for daycare licensing. Look for updates coming soon for the conference! If you or your group would like to learn more about Shaken Baby Syndrome or other child abuse prevention topics, email Chris Deinhammer at cdeinhammer@excap.org or Jill Creel at jcreel@excap.org for more information or to schedule a free training! |
