OVERVIEW

Child Abuse Prevention, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Early Brain Development provides an overview of child abuse with specific emphasis on those requirements of Texas Childcare laws regarding education of licensed childcare providers on Shaken Baby Syndrome, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and Early Brain Development.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • Be able to recognize child abuse and know how to report it to authorities

  • Understand and prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS)

  • Understand Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and know how to reduce risk factors

  • Know the basic tenets of infant brain development the effects of abuse and neglect on brain development
